Grateful Dead & Phriends: Episode 1 (09/26/18)
Welcome to the very first broadcast of Grateful Dead & Phriends of the semester! My name is Zac Transport and I invite you to come with me on a journey through the musical history of the Grateful Dead. On this radio show, we will explore the music of the Dead and how there styles changed over the course of the 30+ years they had together. We will hear differences in sound quality and how the upgrades in recording techniques used by the engineers vastly improved their live recordings. This mastery gave them the sound that defines their style when you think of the Grateful Dead.
Then, we will listen to other jam band music that could have taken influences from the Dead, or were around at the same time. These could include live performances from Bob Dylan, the Allman Brothers Band, and Jefferson Airplane to Gov't Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Umphree's McGee, Widespread Panic, and Phish (thus the "Phriends" of the Dead)!
